DEFENSE HOLDS TECHNICAL CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR STAFF

BARCLAY TRAINING CENTER (BTC) MONROVIA -LIBERIA, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2024: The Minister of National Defense has concluded a two-day technical capacity-building training for staff of the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia. The capacity-building training was held under the theme: “Strengthening Defense Governance and Reform Processes for Growth and Sustainability.”

 


During the opening of the two-day training, B/G. Geraldine J. George (Rtd) called on personnel of the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia to engage in conversation geared towards building their capacities and impacting their responsibilities within the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia.

 


She stated that the primary objective of the workshop is to fortify the Ministry and the AFL to effectively respond to the evolving security landscape while ensuring that the AFL remains robust, well-trained, a force for good and in alignment with the Liberian Constitution. She emphasized that the workshop is not just a mere series of presentations and discussions, but it is a vital step in the continuous process of refining and advancing defense governance and reform processes.

 


She further noted that in recent years, the world continues to witness a rapidly changing international security environment with complexities and threats. She maintained that the defense forces must not only be prepared to address traditional threats but also respond to non-traditional security challenges with agility and resilience.

 


The Minister of Defense concluded her statement by encouraging participants to ask questions and engage in discussions gear towards building professional capacities and impacting on the individual roles within the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia. She told participants that their expertise and experience are invaluable assets to the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia in the training process. She told participants that if they all work together, they will explore innovative approaches to enhance defense governance structures, streamline reform processes, and ultimately contribute to a more secured Liberia and the West African Region.

 


The two-day technical workshop brought together presenters from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Public Procurement and Concessions Commission, Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, Civil Service Agency and International Youth Federation.

 


The presenters deliberated on the following topics: Budgeting and Financial Management, Internal Control Systems, Hiring, Training and Staff Monitoring, Government Procurement Cycle, Assets Declaration and Education.

 


Participants from both the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia thanked the Minister for the workshop and requested for more capacity training workshops and opportunities that are geared towards building their skills in the performance of duties.
