DEFENSE BOSS RECEIVES UNITED STATES CONGRESSIONAL STAFF

BARCLAY TRAINING CENTER, MONROVIA- AUGUST 22, 2024:  The Minister of National Defense, B/G. Geraldine J. George (Retired), has lauded the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations for always standing by Liberia, especially during difficult periods. According to her, the US involvement into Liberia’s progressive developmental drive worth commendation from all well-meaning Liberians.

 

The Defense Boss informed the congressional delegation that her administration will continue to maintain a sustained security cooperation and collaboration with her counterparts within the Minor River Union (MRU) region, particularly military-to-military relations to enhance safety mechanisms within the region. She further said that as a result of the existing relationship among the MRU security actors, the AFL has carried out several joint-border patrols with her counterparts along the various borders within the MRU basin.

 

The Minister’s statement comes in the wake of a courtesy visit by professional staff of the United States Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, headed by John Tomaszewski on Friday, August 23, 2024.

 

For his part, Mr. Tomaszewski commended the Minister for her historic preferment as the first female  Defense Minister of the Republic of Liberia. He thanked the Defense Boss for her role in steering the affairs of the Ministry and the Armed Forces of Liberia.

 

He said as professional staff assigned to the US Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, their visit is meant to interact with the Minister on different policy issues bordering on the security environment of the Country and the sub-region.

 

John Tomaszewski and Margaret Dougherty are currently in Liberia and are expected to visit and interact with other senior government officials.
