The Security Council Resolution 2100 on 25 April 2013 established United Nations Multi-Dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in support to peace operations.
The Armed Forces of Liberia deployed its first batch of contingents in 2013 in Alatona, Diabali North-West of Mali. Due to the number of personnel deployed, AFL troops had to be imbedded with the Nigerian Battalion and later Togolese Battalion with the task of providing Security Patrol from 2013 to 2015 with the total of 46 personnel with AFISMA. To gain legitimacy, the United Nations took over and later the mission transitioned to United Nations Multi-Dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in the same 2013. Since its inception with MINUSMA, the AFL has had increasing roles and demands from the UN.
