Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George (Rtd.) was born in Monrovia, Liberia on 29 July 1975. General George holds a master’s degree in International Relations from Webster University in the USA; Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the AME Zion University in Monrovia, Liberia and numerous certificates including but not limited to the following: Certificate in Public Sector Management from the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) in Freetown, Republic of Sierra Leone and Certificate in Intelligence Fight Against Terrorism from Rome, Italy .
Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George is a retired career military personnel enlisted into the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) in July, 2006 rising through the ranks and files of the military and up till her retirement served the Armed Forces of Liberia as Deputy Chief of Staff. During her military career which spanned over almost two decades, General Geraldine Janet George completed the following military education in addition to her civilian professional development: Diploma, United States Army Command and General Staff College in 2013; Diploma, Junior Staff Course from Horton Academy in Sierra Leone in 2011; Company Commander Course from the Rwanda Military Academy in 2010; Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, USA in 2008; Basic Officer Leadership Course from Fort Benning, USA in 2007; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Advance Individual Training and Initial Entry Training at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia in 2007 and 2006.
In addition to the above mentioned professional development courses, Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George also attended various seminars and trainings adding to her credentials the following: Certificate; Executive Program in Defense Decision-Making from the Institute of for Security Governance in Monterey, California, USA in 2022; Certificate; Women in Strategic Defense and Security Decision-Making from the Institute of for Security Governance in Monterey, California, USA in 2022; Certificate, African Cooperation Course for Decision Makers from the Nasser Military Academy in Cairo, Egypt in 2019; Certificate, Advance Specialization Course on Women Peace and Security in Monrovia, Liberia in 2018; and a Certificate in Security Cooperation Management from the Defense Institute of Security Assistance Management in the USA in 2013.
Previously during her career, Brigadier General George served in various capacities in the Armed Forces of Liberia ranging from Company Commander, 23rd Infantry Brigade Training Company from 2008 to 2009; Brigade S-5, 2009 – 2010; Provost Marshal, 2010 – 2011; Company Commander, Military Police Company 2011 – 2012; Legal Officer, Headquarter AFF, 2012 – 2013; Assistant Chief of Staff for Administration, 2014 – 2015; Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, 2015 – 2016; G-5 Plans, the United Nations Multidimensional Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA), Gao, Republic of Mali, 2016 to 2017; Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia from 2018 to 2024 and Deputy Minister of Defense for Administration in 2024. Currently, Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George serves as Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Liberia.
