Brownie Jeffery Samukai, Jr, is an astute personality with over thirty years of combined working experiences as administrator, military strategist, national security expert, lead strategist on Security Sector Reform/Defense Sector Reform in a post-colonial environment.


Honorable Samukai has proven innovative skills in dealing with insurgency and armed related violence, progressive international experience in managing large-scale human dilemma within a refugee environment, and he is a skilled negotiator with proven analytical skills.


He holds a Master of Science in Applied Economics (Fulbright Scholarship), The American University, Washington, DC, 1990, and Bachelor of Science in Economics, 1984, University of Liberia.

  • 2006- Present: Minister, Ministry of National Defense
  • 2003-2006: Field Security Coordinator Officer, UN Development Programme, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
  • 2000-2003: Field Safety Advisor, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Kibando, Tanzania
  • 1999-2000: Security Officer, UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, East Timor
  • 1995-1997: Deputy Minister for Administration, Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs

  • 1980-1991: Armed Forces of Liberia. He served the Armed Forces of Liberia for 11 years, retiring in 1991 as a Colonel.
